Albir / Alfaz del Pi

Albir is part of the municipality of Alfaz del Pi, which means "Alfas from pine". This is an ancient city with a long history, and with inhabitants and visitors from many cultures. The area is also very suitable for those who enjoy outdoor activities. The mountains and the beach are laying right next to each other. The mountains are designated as a national park, and one can go and cycle beautifully marked routes in a terrific terrain. The mountains "closes" the area. This means that much storm and wind are «closed out», which causes what is called a "micro-climate". In summer the temperature is between 25 ° C and 35 ° C, while the winter temperatures are from 8 ° C to 20 ° C. Official measurements state that it is about 320 days of sunshine a year.

 

Albir

Archaeological finds have been made on the Albirstranden, which shows that the Romans occupied the area in their time. They laid their center a bit higher up, in Alfaz a few kilometers from the coast, to avoid barbaric attacks by pirates. Alfaz in Arabic means "fertile soil", and in Alfaz it grows a lot of grapes, olives, oranges, lemons, almonds, potatoes and figs. On the market you can buy these products right from the local farmers.

 

The area around Alfas Del Pi, covers an area of ​​about 19 km2, and has approx. 20,000 inhabitants. About. Half of them are Spanish. The rest are of different other nationalities. Scandinavians are extremely well represented in the area. In addition, there are large groups Dutch and British. This means that these groups have their own schools, and that restaurants, food stores, social clubs, churches etc are well suited to what these groups require.
