La Manga

is located north of Costa Calida. La Manga is a particularly narrow peninsula stretching 18 ½ km north from Cabo de Palos. It is almost connected to the sea tune that stretches a few miles south from San Pedro del Pinatar. Only some narrow shallow water arms separate the two peninsulas. On the outside you find the Mediterranean Sea, and on the inside the beautiful Mar Menor. Both peninsulas lie with long sandy beaches on both sides. On the outside, the beaches descend into the depths of the Mediterranean, while on the inside there is evergreen and always hot water. Even in the winter it is rarethat the water here comes below 20 degrees! La Manga is the Spaniards own holiday paradise. In the summer, there are people everywhere.

Where La Manga peninsula starts there is aanother smaller eastbound Peninsula. It's called Cabo de Palos.

Cabo de Palos

is an old fishing village. At the top of the tip lies the old lighthouse, which already in 1865 gave the first light signals to passing boats. This picturesque little harbor now provides life to 38 restaurants, some night clubs and many diving safari companies. It is now also possible to rent a place for your own personal pleasure boat.

Just before entering the port there is a traffic light, a small center and a large undeveloped area. Every Sunday, there is a BIG market here.

La Manga Club

10 minutes drive along Mar Menor, and then slightly turning against Mediterranean Sea by Los Belones, you find La Manga Club. The club is sheltered for wind and weather, but yet has a small beach against the Mediterranean. At the club you will find 3 golf courses, all 18 holes, all classified within Europe's 100 best and Spains 30 best. The club is built around the Principe Philipe hotel and two of the golf courses start and end in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. There is also is a tenniscenter with 27 high quality tennis courts, a SPA center and the resorts own bike club. The Norwegian Football Association has its training facility at La Manga Club.

Cartagena

is the largest city of the coastal strip. It has a long history, which is still mainly «buried» in the correct sense of the word, as the history is laying 1-2 meters under the city ground level. The archaeologists working are on a continuous basis, and it can all be seen by solving tickets to the sites that they are working with.

The city was founded already 227 BC by Felterren Hastrubal from Cartagho. It was called Qart Hadash, New Town. Already in 209 BC it was conquered by the Romans who called it Carthago Nova. Here the Romans built their own theater. The theater is under excavation and reconstruction. You can see most of the areas around the theater, but you can come in and see the details by redeeming the entrance ticket.

The city of Cartagena has been heavily rehabilitated in the past 20 years, and the center of the city today appears to be appealing and well-maintained.

One has wished the city should keep its old style. This means that architectural you must, when tearing down a house to build a new,  always keep the façades against the street built like it used to be.

Cartagena has a number of visits by tourists, but appears entirely like a Spanish city.
